Introduction
A UFO video can look dramatic and still tell investigators almost nothing reliable. Without metadata — the hidden technical information attached to a file or sensor recording — analysts often cannot determine where the camera was, when the footage was captured, how the image was processed, or how fast the observed object was actually moving. That makes many civilian UFO reports impossible to reconstruct with confidence.

The Key Data Investigators Need From a Sighting
A proper UFO reconstruction is essentially a geometry and timing problem. Investigators are trying to answer basic questions:
- Where was the observer?
- Where was the object?
- How long was it visible?
- How did it move relative to the observer?
- Was the motion real, apparent or caused by the camera itself?
To answer those questions, a usable case file normally requires several categories of metadata.
Time and location data
The exact timestamp is usually the single most important detail. Even a difference of a few minutes can change the interpretation of a sighting.

Even complete video metadata is rarely enough on its own. Investigators also need surrounding environmental conditions:
- Cloud cover
- Wind direction
- Visibility

This is why serious UFO investigators typically ask witnesses for:
